Dukan Diet Phase 1 and Beyond


Many People are interested in the Dukan Diet Phase 1, because they have

heard that it is a good easy way to lose 5 to 10 pounds quickly. It is important to remember that the Dukan Diet has 4 phases.  In his book , Dr Pierre Dukan calls Phase 1 the "Attack Phase".  He suggests that this phase only last 5 days on average.  He also states that for those that are obese it can last up to 10 days, but adds that "An Attack Phase diet of this length should only be begun after consulting wit your doctor and on the express condition that you drink enough fluids throughout the entire Dukan Diet and especially the Attack Phase."  Below is a link to the  Dukan Diet Food List. but it is important to remember that there is more to this diet than just the food.  Here are some of the other rules:

  1. Stay on this diet less than 10 days. If more than five days and consult your Doctor.
  2. Drink at least 1.5 quarts of water or mineral water with a low salt content.
  3. Take 1.5 tablespoons of oat bran added to nonfat milk or nonfat yogurt.
  4. Walk 20 minutes a day.
  5. Extras allowed: coffee, tea, vinegar, flavorings, spices, herbs, pickles (no sugar), lemon (not lemonade), salt and mustard in moderation

Why think short term. it would be much better to read the book and learn how to lose and maintain that weight loss with the other three phases.
The 4 Phases of the Dukan Diet are:

  1. The Attack Phase.
  2. The Cruise Phase
  3. The Consolidation Phase
  4. The Permanent Stabilization Phase
